ORIENTING TEACHER ALINE BORGES PENNA CLIO MENDES OF OLIVEIRA VALLEY ELIANE DIONSIO 8 PERIOD OF NURSING UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT ANTONIO CARLOS BARBACENA-MG DECEMBER – 2008 SUMMARY the presence of the companion next to the woman in labor during the process of work of childbirth, childbirth and after-childbirth, has been argued in scientific studies where its effect are boarded, not only in relation to the women in labor, but also to the involved professionals directly in the assistance. This study one is about a bibliographical revision, whose focus is to analyze the questionings related to the presence of the companion in the obsttrico sector and its consequences for the period of internment of the gestante. Humanizao. 1 INTRODUCTION previous Centuries, the assistance to the childbirth was given for intitled women ' ' aparadeiras' ' or obstetricians, of total confidence and knowledge of the family, together with the presence of familiar of the gestantes. Posterior times, in century XX, after World War II, transferred it to exist hospitalization as the place for accomplishment of childbirths. The institutionalization became significant factor so that it all occurred the removal of the family during the childbirth process and birth of the child and consequently the support and security to the mothers.

One knows that the gestacional period is a phase of the life of the woman where some feelings appear: fear, joy, anxiety, that is tried differently by each one. Therefore the presence of a companion can become for the woman a source of security and linking with the link where it lives. The importance of the presence of the companion is firmed in agreement observes in the devices praised for the Health department (2004, p.6), where if it reads: … When a person is sick and is interned in a unit of treatment, it tends to lose part or, even though, all its capacity of if reencontrar.
