Lateral Thinking

Lateral Thinking says that our brain relies on pattern recognition systems, since they do not work like computers. We need years before they know simple arithmetic – something that computers can do easily to the first. On the other hand, instantly recognize patterns such as faces, language and writing, something that computers do not. The only way they succeed is by copying the operating system of human brain cells. And they will need considerable time and power to match our capacity. Our great advantage of pattern recognition is that we recognize objects and situations quickly.

Imagine the time you’d lose if you had to do a full scan every time you see an acquaintance or a simple box of cookies. But what we do is greet immediately known and open the box. Therefore, without this pattern recognition would not have social lives (and we would die of hunger). But care, we cling to our patterns often blocked. We seek solutions based on previous problems. Normally we do not seek solutions with other patterns. Each type of approach has its strength. Logically, disciplined thinking is extremely effective in improving products and services. But it is limited to small improvements.

To avoid this impasse, Lateral Thinking techniques to better your model will change in thinking. With them making dramatic and brilliant solutions. New ideas and solutions to radically improve what you have now. Being creative is a matter of looking back and wondering if there is any way to improve something. Edward de Bono, the father of lateral thinking, calls this a “creative pause.” Submit a short pause of about 30 seconds to think of a better way to do something and make those 30 seconds in a normal way of thinking. Needs your self-discipline, and who forgets easily.

Another important change that you can start using is to see problems as opportunities for improvement. I’ve heard a thousand times, but it’s true. Whenever you solve a problem get a better product to offer later. Use your creativity. Creativity is useless if not followed by action. Ideas should be evaluated, improved, polished and marketed before they have any value.
